Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Rostov region Governor visited Novawind factory and VetroStroyDetal factory

Июня 28, 2021

NovaWind project is implemented under the Special Investment Contract (SPIC) providing for an investment project to deploy industrial production of wind turbines in the Russian Federation.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and Rostov region Governor Vasily Golubev made a working trip to Novawind factory and VetroStroyDetal factory where wind turbine components are made, as part of their visit to the Rostov region.

Alexander Korchagin, CEO of NovaWind JSC, presented a project progress report. As it was said, the factory was put into operation on a full cycle. Production rate of the factory is about 120 sets per year. The facility created 270 jobs. The amount of investments in project implementation under the SPIC exceeds 1.7 billion rubles. Novawind wind farms commissioned in 2021 are equipped with components completely manufactured in Russia. The company has established all the competencies to further deepen local content, export services and equipment in order to participate in CSA 2.0 program and switch to a more powerful wind turbine – 4.5 MW. Using of technologies localized in Russia is an integral part of Novawind business development in international markets.

One of the main partners of the project is VetroStroyDetal which supplies modular steel towers for wind turbines to Rosatom's wind power facilities under a special investment contract executed in 2018 by VetroStroyDetal LLC, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the Rostov region for deployment of industrial production of modular steel towers for wind turbines. As part of the project, domestic production of modular steel towers was created in Volgodonsk. The total amount of investments exceeds 1.2 billion rubles. The facility created 300 new jobs. At the end of 2019, the facilities of the new factory started its own production of towers for wind turbines.

“The country has effective mechanisms to support renewable energy. In 2020, about 1 GW of new renewable energy capacity was commissioned, which is 82% more than in 2019, most of which are wind farms. Today, Russian companies not only operate in the domestic market, but also successfully represent the domestic industry in the global renewable energy markets. It was decided to extend the renewable energy support program until 2035. According to estimates, under the program, in 2023-2035, we expect commissioning of more than 6.7 GW of total installed capacity generated from renewable energy sources”, noted Alexander Novak.

The head of the region, in turn, noted that the wind power projects are highly important for the Rostov region: “In the shortest possible time, modern facilities were created in Volgodonsk for the production of technically advanced components and assemblies for wind turbines. Manufacturing facilities are important for us, given our task to become the leading region in the country for wind energy. The Rostov region has already taken the first place in Russia in terms of installed wind power capacity, and we do not intend to stop. In total, this year it is planned to commission wind farms in the region with a total capacity of 260 MW, we have just put into operation one of them in the Azov district. So there is a lot of work ahead in this sector.”
