The new modification of Russian nuclear fuel loaded into Temelin NPP reactor in Czech Republic

Августа 23, 2018

As the result of the scheduled outage at unit 2 of Temelin NPP in Czech Republic, a batch of 48 nuclear fuel assemblies of new modification TVSA-T.mod.2 (produced by TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom), has been loaded into VVER-1000 reactor.

In comparison with the TVSA-T fuel assemblies previously supplied to Temelin NPP, the new modification contributes to higher economic efficiency of power plant operations Besides, the new bundles are more robust and have lower pressure drop which also contributes to advanced operational behavior.

Manufacturing of the new advanced bundles has started in 2018 at Machine-building Plant, a fabrication facility of TVEL Fuel Company located in Elektrostal, Moscow region. TVEL JSC supplies nuclear fuel for both units of Temelin NPP, powered by VVER-1000 reactors, under the current contract with ČEZ power company.

Oleg Grigoriyev, Senior Vice-President for Commerce and International Business of TVEL JSC, commented on the project:

“Loading the most efficient up-to-date fuel assemblies into one of Temelin NPP reactors is the result of the joint efforts of the Czech and Russian nuclear engineers involved in the project of introduction of the new fuel modification at the power plant. We consider it as another success story in the long-time efficient cooperation between TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom and ČEZ. We are committed to further supplies of modern and reliable nuclear fuel to Czech Republic, introducing the new design and modifications of fuel assemblies, including the ones for VVER-440 reactors, which would make the operations of the Czech nuclear power plants even more efficient”.
