The work was done within the framework of the unit’s useful life extension program by the specialists of the holding «Titan-2»
The fourth unit was shut down for major repairs and modernization in July 2009. According to the technical director deputy of «Titan-2», executive manager for lifetime extension of the LNPP unit No. 4 Dmitry Vinnichenko, the installed equipment fully complies with all safety requirements established by the applicable regulations.
To ensure the safety control of the unit in the subcritical state of the reactor during the period of work a temporary control and protection system was put into operation. The total cost of lifetime extension works of the LNPP unit No. 4 is about 14 billion rubles. Putting into operation of the unit is scheduled for 2010. At the beginning of the 1990’s LNPP units are being modernized, which is one of the conditions of the license for their operation. In 2004 useful life of the unit No. 1 was extended for a period of fifteen years. In October 2006 unit No. 2 after the upgrade was put into operation with the extended 15-year lifespan. In December 2009 Rostekhnadzor (Russian Technical Supervisory Authority) extended to 15 years (until January 31, 2025) the lifetime of the unit No. 3.
