"Surgutskaya GRES-2 is a recognized leader in the Russian thermal generation, and the record that has been set in 2009 is yet another proof of the high demand for the electricity the power plant produces being located in one of the most industrially developed regions of the country", says Yuri Sablukov, OGK-4 Director General.
The previous record of 34,955 bln kWh was set almost two decades ago in 1990. Mr Sablukov notes, that the today's achievement proves that the right direction was chosen by the company when fulfilling its technical policy. In 1990 the equipment was new, and the record today was set with heavy yearly repairs campaigns ongoing.
In the future the Surgutskaya GRES-2 output is to increase due to the planned commissioning in 2011 of the two new energy units, 400 MW each. This move is to increase the total installed capacity of the power plant to reach 5600 MW. The construction at Surgutskaya is a part of a large scale 2.3 bln euro investment program that stipulates creation of 2400 MW of installed capacity currently under way as well at Shaturskaya, Berezovskaya and Yayvinskaya GRESes.
