100th LNG delivery at the Sakhalin-2 Project

Февраля 03, 2010

The last days of January were marked by a major milestone at the Prigorodnoye Asset - the hundredth tanker carried Russian liquefied natural gas from the LNG plant to Sakhalin Energy customers in Japan.

The ship, which delivered this memorable cargo, was one of Sakhalin Energy’s three gas-carriers - Grand Aniva. This was the vessel which shipped the first Sakhalin LNG cargo from the LNG plant in March 2009 and this shipment also went to Japan.
Over 5.5 million tonnes of LNG have been shipped since Russia’s first LNG plant began operating less than a year ago in February 2009.
“This is a milestone for the Company and for Russia as a global energy supplier,” said Andrei Galaev, CEO of Sakhalin Energy. “It shows that we have established a stable supply channel of the ‘blue fuel’ to markets in the Asia-Pacific. This significantly enhances the market diversification of Russian energy supplies, and represents an important step towards improving global energy security.”
Enormous work has been done since the company was set up to develop the riches of the Sakhalin shelf, culminating in the launch of the production and export of a hydrocarbon product totally new to Russia – liquefied natural gas, or LNG – and Russia getting access to a totally new market – the Asia-Pacific. This achievement was made possible with the world-class safety performance, ensuring no harm to people, plant and environment.
The major destination for Sakhalin LNG last year was Japan, representing more than 50% of volume of the delivered LNG. Remaining quantities of LNG were shipped to South Korea, India, Kuwait, China and Taiwan.
