The meeting discussed the possible construction of the first Vietnamese nuclear power plant and cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in nuclear technology areas.
“Rosatom is a globally recognized company. Ninh Thuan NPP is going to play a very important role in ensuring energy security of Vietnam. We appreciate the willingness of the Russian side to provide the necessary loan and assistance in this project”, - commented the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
“We view the order for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Vietnam as the sign of absolute confidence in what we do. I ensure you that we’ll take any effort to justify this trust and will be able to build the most safe and up-to-date nuclear power plant in Vietnam,” - said Sergey Kirienko.
Vietnam is planning to build two VVER 1000-1200 reactors at Ninh Thuan site. The first power unit is to be commissioned in 2020. Russian CJSC “Atomstoiexport” is acting as the construction General Contractor. Vietnam’s strategic energy development program for the period up to 2030 includes the construction of 13 nuclear power units with total capacity 15GW at eight NPP sites.
