“The miner’s job is the most dangerous and difficult occupation,” said DTEK’s Coal Production Director Andrey Smirnov. “Our main task as the employer is to do everything in our power to minimize risks for our employees. Most companies that joined our group require large-scale modernisation and upgrade as they were built several decades ago. The acquisition of new equipment designed under the latest standards, which can secure the safety of our miners, is the priority for DTEK. In 2012, DTEK allocated 472 million hryvnias for occupational safety at our mines, and this year’s amount will not be less. We never forget the sad lessons of our profession. Safety improvement will always be the top priority, and our shareholder personally controls the fulfilment of this task.”
The operational principal of the ASVP-LV system is the following: in case of an explosion of a methane-air mixture or coal dust, the system creates a barrier in the mine working — a cloud of suspended flame-retardant powder. The barrier extinguishes the flame and prevents the propagation of explosions along the network of mine roadways.
At present, DTEK already has 140 automated explosion location systems in service. By the end of 2013, the company plans to spend 1.7 million hryvnias to buy 24 more systems.
