Construction of Shrikail-3 well completed

After carrying out all tests, which were begun in May this year, a maximum influx rate of 618,700 m2 of natural gas per day was obtained.

The company has now proceeded with the moving of the rig to the next drilling point, the Begumganj-3 well, which has a projected depth of 3,650 metres.

Shrikail-3 is the first completed of 10 planned wells, the drilling of which Gazprom International began in March this year under its contracts with the Bangladeshi companies BAPEX and BGFCL/SGFL.

Work on the Titas-20 well, which has been drilled, according to the project, to a depth of 3,532 metres, is expected to be completed in the nearest future.

In April 2012, Gazprom International signed two contracts with BAPEX and BGFCL/SGFL, both subsidiaries of Petrobangla, the Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (BOGMC), to design and construct 10 wells. Under the contract with BAPEX, the drilling of five wells is planned: four wells in the Titas field and one well in the Rashidpur field. Under the contract with BGFCL/SGFL, the drilling of another five wells is planned: in the Semutang, Begumganj and Shrikail fields (one well in each), and in the Shahbazpur field (two wells). Most of the wells are slanted. The depth of the wells will range from 2,900 m to 4,050 m (down the wellbores).

Currently, Bangladesh desperately needs to increase domestic production of natural gas, which is used mainly in power plants and for the production of mineral fertilisers.
