Director General of Rosenergoatom Ye. Romanov visited Rostov NPP

During the working visit Ye. Romanov familiarized with the construction progress and made a tour of key facilities of the start-up complex of Unit 3. This power unit should be ready for start-up earlier than initially planned. “An ambitious target is set, i.e. to start up Unit 3 in 2014. Therefore, it is essential to focus on the measures that allow reaching these targets. And in this respect, I am absolutely satisfied with what I have seen on the construction site. The third unit of Rostov NPP today is the best construction site of Rosenergoatom,” Ye. Romanov said.

By date, at Unit 3 the installation works have been completed at all subsystems of the automatic process control system (APCS) and adjustment of equipment, which will be involved in the operation of filling the unsealed reactor, is under way. Adjustment of the reactor building monitoring systems is 30% complete; start-up and adjustment at control safety systems is 40% complete; and adjustment of the turbine hall monitoring system is 20% complete.

“I would like to note that moving due dates “to the left” when the power unit is to be released two months earlier, is a unique case, Valery Limarenko, President of the United Company NIAEP-ASE, noted. “In this regard we will have to adjust the construction schedule. I would like to emphasize that the change of target 1.5 months before start-up is a difficult but doable task. We treat it very seriously and I hope we will come off with honor.”

Speaking on the power unit availability degree, Andrey Salnikov, existing Rostov NPP Plant Manager, pointed out: “We have entered the active start-up and commissioning activities phase. For the first time this work is carried out with permanent power supply arrangement. This saves time and increases quality of the work. There is no need in additional equipment checks after power supply switch-over from the temporary arrangement to permanent one. Besides, already today we have full-scale operating shifts in the reactor hall, electrical shop and heat automation and measurements shop. Correspondingly, adjustment and test runs of the equipment are carried out from the main control room already as normal.”
