Since Germany’s reunification, the Norwegian town of Drøbak, situated along the Oslofjord, has been giving Berlin a Christmas tree each year – as a symbol of peace and solidarity with the reunified Germany. And once again, unusual tree decorations from Wintershall add a certain glamour to the Christmas tree. They were designed by SHE Design Studios in Oslo especially for the Berlin Christmas tree.
The festive ceremony to turn on the Christmas tree’s lights took place on the evening of the first Advent Sunday. Alongside Jonas GahrStøre, the former Norwegian foreign minister, Martin Bachmann, Member of the Wintershall Board of Executive Directors, took part in the festive ceremony. Musical entertainment was provided by the Norwegian solo artist Thomas Dybdahl.
"The Norwegian Christmas tree is one of the finest Christmas traditions in Berlin,” Martin Bachmann said. “We are delighted to make our contribution to this wonderful tradition again with the artistic tree decorations, because the Christmas tree is also a symbol of something that shines well beyond the Advent period; it is an unmistakable sign of the German-Norwegian friendship.”
