The contract covers supply of newly modified fuel assemblies TVS-2006 for the core fuel inventory at Hanhikivi plant that is currently under construction, and for its 10-year operation. The contract supplies may be renewed for further operation of the plant.
Fuel assemblies TVS-2006 were developed in 2012 as part of the technical project for components of the reactor core AES-2006. In 2014, it is scheduled to launch the main unit (unit No. 1 of Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2) which will be the first commercial power reactor over the whole term of the AES-2006 project. Fuel assemblies for the core fuel inventory are manufactured by Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant (NCCP OJSC) controlled by TVEL JSC.
Finland is the only country in the Western Europe where Russian reactors are operated: in 1977 and 1980, two power units with VVER-440 reactors were placed into service at Loviisa plant. According to IAEA, the share of nuclear generation in the power balance of Finland amounts to 32.59%.
It shall be reminded that on December 21, 2013 in Helsinki, representatives of companies controlled by the Rosatom State Corporation have signed a set of documents with their Finnish partners concerning three major areas of cooperation under the project of construction of the nuclear power plant Hanhikivi in Finland based on Russian technologies.
