As a result of the tests a gas influx rate of up to 673 thousand cubic metres per day was obtained.
The construction of the well, located at the Titas field, 95 km north-east of Dhaka, took one and a half months and was completed on 20 December.
The drilling rig is currently being dismantled to move it to the next drilling point: the next stage will be the construction of the Titas-22 well with a projected depth of 4,063 metres.
This is the fourth of the ten planned wells drilled by Gazprom International in 2013 under contracts with the Bangladeshi companies BAPEX and BGFCL/SGFL. The drilling of the fifth well – on the Semutang field – will begin shortly.
In April 2012 Gazprom International concluded two contracts with BAPEX and BGFCL/SGFL, subsidiary companies of the state-owned Bangladesh oil and gas corporation PetroBangla, to design and construct 10 production wells. Under the agreements reached, Gazprom International will drill five wells for BAPEX: four at the Titas field and one at the Rashidpur field. The contract with BGFCL/SGFL involves drilling on the Semutang, Begumganj and Shrikail fields (one well in each) and at the Shahbazpur field (two wells). Most of the wells are directional inclined wells; their depth will range from 2,900 to 4,050 m down the wellbore.
The Titas gas field, located in the Bengal oil and gas basin, was opened in 1962 and was put into commercial operation in 1967. The field’s gas reserves are currently estimated at 230 billion cubic metres, the average daily production, according to Petrobangla data is 12.7 million cubic metres.
