The power unit is scheduled to be commissioned in April. Today, pre-commissioning works and equipment testing are still being carried out on the construction site.
The renewed plant will not only be technically updated and environmentally friendly but much more safe, even for airplanes. At the end of the last year, aircraft warning systems were finally installed on the highest facilities of the plant - the cooling tower and the chimney. According to the Civil Aviation Regulations of Russia, such systems must be installed on all facilities higher than 50 meters.
The cooling tower of the PGU power unit of Izhevsk CHP plant-1 is 53 meters high; the height of the chimney is 60 meters. To equip them with the required systems, contractors have used special aircraft warning lights – red LED lamps with constant light emission and with all-direction luminous intensity. They are more reliable and use less power compared to regular lamps. At the same time, they are arranged in such a way that one can see two lights from any side, and each lamp is doubled against a possibility of LED burning out.
Eight pairs of such twin lights are now installed on the tower, and there are four of them on the chimney. Besides, the cooling tower was also equipped with a billboard bearing a logo of the plant owner and main construction investor - KES-Holding. Later, a lighting system will be arranged for it.
As we mentioned before, renewal of Izhevsk CHP plant-1 is one of the most large-scale investment projects of the regional power industry. Construction works are being performed as part of implementation of the priority investment project of KES-Holding, and construction costs are estimated to be 10.3 billion rubles.
The total power of the combined cycle gas turbine unit is 230 MW. For reference, installed capacity of Izhevsk CHP plant-1 is 60 MW only. Commissioning of a new power unit will make it possible to improve efficiency and reliability of electric and thermal power generation, and to decrease their prime cost.
