Yuzhnouralskaya TPP-2 is designed to provide reliable supply of electricity to Chelyabinsk region (the Southern Urals), and it will also give an opportunity to decommission legacy equipment at currently operating Yuzhnouralskaya TPP.
The first power generation unit of Yuzhnouralskaya TPP-2 was completed exactly on schedule. LLC Inter RAO — Engineering, a member of Inter RAO Group, managed this development project, while Atomstroyexport was employed as the general contractor.
Core equipment of this power generation unit includes high-efficiency Siemens AG gas and steam turbines and a ZiO-Podolsk boiler delivering some of the highest efficiencies of power generation in the industry at 54.8%. This project features significantly reduced hazardous air pollutant emissions and a safe, state-of-the-art water supply system.
“The launch of the first power generation unit at Yuzhnouralskaya TPP-2 is an important milestone of Inter RAO’s investment program,” said Chief Executive of JSC Inter RAO Boris KOVALCHUK. “Construction of modern, high-efficiency power facilities such as Yuzhnouralskaya TPP-2 helps to ensure reliable supply of electricity to Chelyabinsk region and also makes Russian electric power industry more attractive for investment.”
