“Mednaya” will become the first substation rated for 20kV and located beyond Moscow. Development of 20kV networks is performed in line with the worldwide trends: major developed countries have already switched to this voltage rating. Commissioning of “Mednaya” substation will mark the start of modernization of the integrated power grid of Ekaterinburg and ensure economic benefit from operation of distributing networks of new voltage rating. Transmission losses in distributing networks 20kV are less than in 6 and 10kV networks that are commonly used today.
“Mednaya” is an outdoor substation. High voltage equipment of this power facility will be located outdoors and protected with a reinforced-concrete fence to ensure compliance with the operational code for electrical installations and to prevent access of unauthorized persons to the substation site. Also, a brick building will be built at “Mednaya” for the indoor switchgear 20kV. The building footprint will be 6,200 sq.m.
The substation will be fitted with modern equipment consistent with all safety requirements which will guarantee quality of electric power supply to consumers related to the substation. Two power transformers 110/20kV will be manufactured by order of EEGC and installed by the manufacturer. That will ensure prompt fulfillment of manufacturer’s warranty obligations. Besides, unique circuit breakers 110kV rated for heavy fault currents will be installed at “Mednaya”. Their high breaking capacity will guarantee safety and care of the substation equipment in case of power system disturbances.
Commissioning of “Mednaya” substation is scheduled for the end of 2014. The volume of investment in construction and equipment of the facility will amount to 232 mln rubles (VAT exclusive).
