FGC UES will deliver more than 150 MW for expansion of Novolipetsk Steel

Марта 25, 2014

The Federal Grid Company has commenced modernization of the power supply scheme of one of the leading producers of iron ore raw materials – Stoylensky mining and processing plant.

Upon completion of works, the plant will obtain 151 MW required for commissioning of a new factory producing 6 mln tons of iron-ore pellets per year.

“We were challenged with providing a technological opportunity for the facility expansion. To do that, we will put additional transformer capacities into service and improve reliability of electric power supply of our supply centers that will be connected to new facilities of the plant”, said Sergey Demin, General Director at FGC – MES of Center.

As of today, works related to connection of one of the abovementioned facilities (upgraded substation 110 kV GPP-15) to the FGC networks have already been performed. At a later stage, it is planned to connect four other substations. To perform that task, two cubicles at Gubkin substation 330 kV, and four cubicles at Stary Oskol substation 500 kV will be upgraded. Also, an additional autotransformer 500/110 kV 250 MVA will be installed at Stary Oskol. The works are scheduled to be completed in the end of 2015.

Stoylensky mining and processing plant is owned by Novolipetsk Steel. The plant is one of the largest producers of iron ore raw materials in Russia. Its share in the all-Russian production of iron ore products amounts to 14%. Currently, major extension of the open pit is carried out at Stoylensky MPP as well as expansion of ore treatment and processing capacities, and construction of a pelletization plant.
