In accordance with the project, the well was drilled to a depth of 3,032 metres and the potential of the discovered sites is now being tested.
This is the sixth of ten planned wells to be constructed by Gazprom International under contracts with BAPEX and BGFCL/SGFL, subsidiaries of PetroBangla, the state-owned Bangladesh oil and gas corporation.
In addition, drilling work on a seventh well, Titas-19, began last Sunday in the Titas field. It is planned to reach a depth of 3,853 metres.
Last year, Gazprom International completed the construction of four gas wells which are now in production: Shrikail-3, Titas-20, Titus-21 and Begumganj-3. Three of these have already been connected to Bangladesh's gas supply chain.
In April 2012, Gazprom International, the sole specialist operator of Gazprom's upstream projects outside the Russian Federation, concluded two contracts to design and construct ten production wells with subsidiary companies of the state-owned corporation PetroBangla.
Under the agreements reached, wells will be drilled at six of Bangladesh's gas fields: Titas (four wells), Rashidpur, Semutang, Begumganj, Shrikail (one well in each) and Shahbazpur (two wells). Most of the wells are directional inclined wells; their depths will range from 2,900 to 4,050 m down the wellbore.
The Titas gas field is located in the Bengal oil and gas basin, and was put into commercial operation in 1967. Its gas reserves are currently estimated at 230 billion cubic metres, with an average daily production of around 14 million cubic metres, according to data from Petrobangla.
