The project works are performed as part of the investment program of High-Voltage Cable Networks (MUPGC branch).
Vostochnaia-Cherkizovo was the first high-voltage cable line in Moscow. That was the beginning of the history of High-Voltage Cable Networks. Construction of the line commenced in 1939 and got completed in 1942, in full swing of the Great Patriotic War, during the Battle of Moscow.
According to Edward Podadayev, CEO of High-Voltage Cable Networks (HVCN), the cable line “Vostochnaia-Cherkizovo” that was constructed over 70 years ago may be considered a masterpiece of the cable art. It is laid in a very competent and quality way. Each cable sleeve has a personal stamp of an installer that performed works and was responsible for his or her section.
However, time imposes its own requirements. To improve the throughput capacity of the line, oil-filled cable 65 mm2 was replaced with PE insulated cable with conductor area of 120 mm2.
The total length of the cable section subject to reconstruction is 2700 m. Among them, 340 meters are laid by the method of horizontal directional drilling (HDD), and 2360 meters are buried under ground. Using HDD method allowed laying the new cable along complicated sections of the cable route without dismantling the road surface and destruction of planting and vegetation. The total length of the XLPE insulated cable is about 16.5 km. Cable fittings to be used for the cable line mounting include 48 items.
The cable route goes through the Eastern administrative district of Moscow, particularly along Golyanovsky Lane, Zolotaya Street, Semenovsky Embankment and Izmaylovskoe Highway.
The costs of reconstruction of the ACL 110kV “Vostochnaia-Cherkizovo 1, 2” will amount to 606 mln rubles.
According to Edward Podadayev, CEO of High-Voltage Cable Networks, incorporation of a new branch line into the existing electrical network is scheduled for Q2 2014.
That is how the historic line will continue its operation for the benefit of consumers of the capital.
