Energy market overview April 2014

Мая 21, 2014

Beginning of April brought an electricity futures’ contract value low-point, prices restored throughout the rest of the month.

Estonian and Finnish Day-Ahead April prices continued on level same as March. Latvian and Lithuanian Day-Ahead prices higher in April than in March. Natural gas futures’ prices continually affected by world’s political tensions. Laying of NordBalt, a fresh under-sea transmission cable between Lithuania and Sweden, began in April.

Low levels of precipitation throughout April and weather forecasts of arriving drier weather lifted electricity futures’ prices. Higher-than-average air temperature held Estonian and Finnish Day-Ahead prices down. Carbon dioxide emission permit prices restored bit-by-bit in April, supporting electricity futures’ prices. High wind power output in the middle of April aided in keeping Day-Ahead prices low. Political tensions between Eastern and Western world, which began in March and continued in April, affected the price of crude oil. The dollar was continually weak against the euro in April.
