Turboatom is carrying on the modernization of welding equipment

The equipment is intended for multiple pass automatic or semi-automatic submerged arc welding of girth joints of turbine rotors in deep grooving.

Welding of million-kilowatt steam turbine rotor with the capacity of 1000 MW or over more and hydroturbine shafts is performed on the plant as well as the cladding of cases of hydro turbines runners and surfaces on hydroturbines shafts. Maximum length of parts is 10 m, outer diameter is 3450 mm and grooving depth reaches 400 mm.

During the modernization of the Portal, the specialists of Pilot Plant of Welding Equipment of E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute jointly with the engineering and technical services of the enterprise replaced welding heads, mechanism of heads drive and control system.

When the work was carried out the quality of weld joints has been improved, the cycles of manufacturing equipment have been reduced and labor productivity has been increased.

The representatives of Pilot Plant of Welding Equipment of E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute provided instruction and trained the personnel of "Turboatom" in terms of the welding bench operation.

Currently, the stainless deposition welding is being performed on the shaft of Dnestrovskaya PSPP No. 3 on the Portal.

According to the Chief Engineer Gregoriy Ishchenko, the modernization of welding equipment connected with the fulfillment of orders on nuclear power, "Welding of million-kilowatt steam turbine rotor is performed only on large-size portal plants, it is our unique technology and it is necessary to modernize the equipment for its implementing." He also noted that today the company modernizes another three large machining centers, which are intended for machining large-size parts. In particular, we are talking about machines 6640, HC-33, Skoda-200. The work on them is carried out by the specialists of companies Waldrich Coburg (Germany) and Skoda (Czech Republic) jointly with the repair services of "Turboatom".
