DTEK supports efforts for peaceful settlement of conflict in Donbas

Июня 25, 2014

DTEK supports efforts of all parties involved in a conflict in Donbas region to promptly resolve differences and reach a compromise.

DTEK considers the peace plan announced by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko a feasible instrument to settle the conflict and start restoring order in the region.

The steps proposed by the President of Ukraine are aimed at satisfying the urgent demands of the region. They are intended to protect the values and traditions of Donbas people, support local economy, and decentralise power in the region.

"The crisis directly affects our employees," says DTEK’s CEO Maxim Timchenko. "Thousands of the company's employees cannot work peacefully. Armed militants of self-styled republics kidnap managers of DTEK's mines, deny miners access to their working places, steal cars. As the result of hostilities, production at some of DTEK's companies has been disrupted.

In this situation, every DTEK's employee has to make a choice: to give a chance to the new Ukrainian authorities to secure peace and stability or to keep putting up with war, ruin and unemployment. Miners have already had their say. On 22 June, over a thousand miners from DTEK's Komsomolets Donbassa mine, one of the largest in Ukraine, held a peace rally.

People think that all conflict parties must immediately start negotiations", said Timchenko. "Our companies are the backbone for many local communities and play a crucial role in Ukraine's economy. It is painful for me and, I believe, for all our employees to see the ruination of everything we have been building for so many years. This peace plan is the first step on the way to resolving the situation in Donbas. I urge all those who want to end war to join efforts to implement the peace plan."
