That was mentioned during the visit of Andrey Murov, the Chairman of Board of FGC UES, to one of the key facilities in Volgograd - Gumrak substation 220 kV.
Comprehensive upgrade of Gumrak substation will be finished by 2018. Its capacity will amount to 680 MVA. Currently, design works are being performed by the Technical Research Center of FGC UES and ABB Ltd. to establish a new format of the power facility.
FGC UES is currently implementing ten projects in six regions of Russia, including those for 2018 FIFA World Cup. Five of them are green field projects, and another five are brown field, i.e. upgrade of the existing substations. By 2017, it is planned to commission and upgrade over 4 thousand MVA and 35 km of power transmission lines. 28.1 bln rubles will be invested for that purpose.
“We have experience in supplying power for such major sports events as the Sochi Olympics and Kazan Universiade, so our best practice will be used in preparation for the FIFA World Cup”, said Andrey Murov. “FGC UES takes into account general FIFA requirements to reliability of power supply to the facilities involved during the football games”.
The FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia in summer 2018. The championship will take place in 12 Russian cities. All works to be performed by FGC UES as part of the World Cup activities will be included to the draft of the company’s investment project for 2015-2019.
