Lenenergo has improved power supply to the railroad between Moscow and Saint-Petersburg

Июня 26, 2014

The specialists of Lenenergo JSC (subsidiary of Rosseti JSC) replaced towers and HV lines above the main tracks of the railroad between Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, along the line Sablino-Popovka.

That ensured additional reliability of electric power supply for high-speed trains “Sapsan” and “Leo Tolstoy” running from Saint-Petersburg to Moscow and from Moscow to Helsinki, respectively. The railroad branch is connected to the railway substation which in turns receives electricity from SS No. 482.

As part of repair works, the specialists reconstructed anchor towers in quite an unconventional way: the latters were assembled from top to bottom by using a crane. Due to high traffic on the railroad between Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, all works were performed at night time.

Before that, power engineers were engaged in upgrading the “Tosno” substation 110/35/10kV No. 483 that supplies electric power to the section of Oktiabrskaia railroad in order to enable movement of high-speed trains. Power transformers were replaced at the substation which was built back in 1988. As a result, total capacity of the substation grew by 30 MVA. Also, state-of-the-art protective relay sets and current transformers were installed. Besides, the specialists laid 6 cable lines of the total length of 350 meters.

The next stage of the network upgrade will ensure additional reliability of power supply to transport infrastructure facilities.
