Ukrtransgaz: Ukraine Taking Solid Steps To Diversify Gas Supplies

Июля 02, 2014

Ukraine is examining the Adriatic Gas Corridor project initiated by Croatia, supported by Hungary and the European Commission.

Ukrtransgaz’s deputy chief engineer Oleh Mykhalevych said this at an international seminar entitled Energy Future and Security taking place in Tbilisi (Georgia).

Oleh Mykhalevych said that the LNG-terminal Croatia plans to construct in Omisalj on the island of Kirk (Croatia; the Adria LNG project), should be an object of gas supplies. The creation of the gas corridor will allow interconnecting the gas transport systems of Croatia, Hungary and Ukraine, as well as to raise the stake of natural gas delivered to Ukraine from other sources. The complex of underground gas storage facilities located on the western borders of Ukraine will allow reserving natural gas for both participants of the future corridor and other countries of Western and Central Europe.

The Ukrtransgas spokesperson also said that Ukraine is studying possible participation in construction of the TANAP gas pipeline (Trans-Anadolu Pipeline) through which it is planned to transport 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas through the territory of Turkey to European countries. Given the fact that the TANAP's capacity can be doubled, Ukraine is interested in its use in order to deliver gas to its territory.
