The country can offer innovative technologies for building new nuclear power plants in Brazil and the program can increase the effectiveness of similar projects.
Over the next 30 years, according to the IAEA prognosis, the number of nuclear power plants in the world will grow steadily. This phenomenon increases the energy security of national economies and mitigates the consequences of climate change on the planet.
For the head of the Russian atomic energy firm Rosatom, Sergey Kirienko, atomic energy is today a compulsory condition for the stable and secure functioning of the world's energy system.
“Atomic energy gains special relevance for countries with fast-growing economy, because the lack of energy resources is characteristic of many of them”, stated Kirienko during the Atomic Forum Atomexpo, held in June in Moscow.
The state company cooperates actively with Latin America countries in various programs of atomic energy, especially in the sale of medical isotopes. In Brazil, the Russian company has shown interest in projects to build new blocks of nuclear power plants.
"Eletrobras, Brazil's largest electric energy group, plans to build four to eight nuclear power plants by 2030. Taking advantage of the statement by the President of the company, Othon Luiz Pinheiro, that Brazil needs a qualified supplier, Rosatom has all the necessary resources, significant experience and potential to be the ideal supplier for the country”, says Kirienko.
Long portfolio
The portfolio of long-term orders of Rosatom comes to US$ 90 billion. At the time, the state company participates in the construction of 28 nuclear power plants energy blocks, 19 of which are located in countries abroad.
Modern nuclear power plants of generation "plus three" created by Russian centers projects have the best effective technologies not only of use for at least 60 years, but also an absolutely safe operation of the station in any situation.
For example, NIAEP-ASE specialists, the largest Russian atomic engineering company, created the innovative Multi-D technology for effective management of projects construction with complex engineering facilities.
“On the base of this technology is the intellectual design and three-dimensional modeling of construction processes, allowing us to build any complex installations at exactly the appointed time, in certain price and quality. The use of modern technologies is oriented not only to reduce construction costs of installation, but also to the increase of their security. This technology was created to be universal, and we use it today in our nuclear facilities in Russia and abroad, as well as non-nuclear projects”, says the Deputy Director of NIAEPASE, Vyacheslav Alenkov.
Regarding the others BRIC countries, India and China confirmed at the forum partnerships with Russia in the field of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Moreover, Bangladesh has signed the contract for its first nuclear power plant, "Ruppur".
Chinese partnership
Russia and China may also conduct joint projects in other countries. "The discussion of partnership with China on projects in other countries may also be interesting. Our partnership is a very complex character, and we are pleased with its progress," said Kirienko.
According to him, Rosatom also continues the dialogue to expand the partnership in respect of fast reactors. Russian experts have built two energy blocks of Tianvan NPP in China. They were delivered in 2007 for industrial use, and are considered the best in the country in terms of operation and safety. The main construction contract for the second stage of the nuclear power plant located on the edge of the Yellow Sea was signed by Russia and China in 2010. The blocks inauguration is planned for 2018.
Phrase – Sergey Kirienko, Rosatom’s Director General:
"At the moment, Rosatom’s main projects are concentrated in countries of the Pacific Circle, since at this part of the world the atomic energy develops actively. Furthermore, Rosatom is also interested in Latin American market, as Brazil and Argentina. “For us, this is a very interesting region. For a long time these countries talk about the deployment of a new atomic energy program, but so far have not taken decisions on the subject."
