The Prime Minister of Bangladesh meets the Head of Gazprom International

Июля 14, 2014

The delegation from Gazprom International, Gazprom’s sole specialised operator for foreign upstream projects, headed by Valery Gulev, was met by the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina.

During the meeting, held at Bangabhaban, the residence of the Head of State in Dhaka, Valery Gulev congratulated the Prime Minister on her re-election and informed her about work performed with the National Oil and Gas Corporation Petrobangla on the drilling of production wells in a number of oil fields in Bangladesh.

The head of the Russian company thanked Sheikh Hasina's government for their support, and both sides expressed their interest and vision of the further development and diversification of areas of their mutual cooperation.

In particular, the parties to the talks discussed the possibility for the creation of a joint venture with one of Petrobangla’s subsidiaries. The Russian side expressed its strong interest in this initiative and its readiness to carry out comprehensive analysis and the required consultations at the earliest opportunity. The proposed joint venture could be used to identify and implement new projects in Bangladesh, Russia or other countries. The Prime Minister welcomed the Russian initiative to organise education for Bangladeshi students at top oil and gas universities in the Russian Federation.

"Russia is our trusty friend, and we always remember this and appreciate and support any forms of cooperation between our countries," Sheikh Hasina said, emphasising Bangladesh’s readiness to provide the joint venture with the required human resources, local infrastructure and diplomatic support.

Valery Gulev assured the Bangladesh Prime Minister that his company, as part of the Gazprom group, has formidable productive and technological potential, and remarked that “under the current contracts alone, Gazprom International has already added more than 10% to Petrobangla’s gas production, and is definitely capable of even more.”

During his visit to Dhaka, Valery Gulev also met the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Mahmood Ali, the Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of Bangladesh Dipu Moni, the Minister of Energy Nazrul Hamid and the head of Petrobangla Hossain Monsur. In the course of their negotiations they discussed the outcome of the meeting with Sheikh Hasina and further joint cooperation

Gazprom International is currently a partner of the Petrobangla subsidiaries, BAPEX, BGFCL and SGFL, under the contracts signed in April 2012 for the design and construction of ten production wells at six gas fields in Bangladesh. To date, seven wells have been built under these contracts: Shrikail-3, Titas-19, Titas-20, Titas-21, Titas-22, Begumganj-3 and Semutang-6; drilling work is underway on Rashidpur-8 and Shahbazpur-3. Some of these wells are already linked up to Bangladesh's central gas supply.
