Experimental shell of nuclear reactor core for VVER-TOI project developed by Rosatom subsidiary Atomenergoproekt, general designer of nuclear power plants, was produced at OMZ-Special Steels in January, 2014. The component was manufactured from a 420-tonne ingot at AKK-12000 forging plant. The ingot was cast in December 2013 in DSP-120 electric arc furnace from 15X2HMFA-grade steel. The shell was then subjected to preliminary heat treatment at OMZ-Special Steels and mechanical treatment at Izhorskie Zavody. Main heat treatment of the shell is one of the finishing steps of its production cycle.
Research and development works for mastering of VVER-TOI pressure vessel production at OMZ-Special Steels are carried out in partnership with OMZ-Izhora, CNIITMASH State Scientific Center and Prometey Research Institute. VVER-TOI project is based on an optimized VVER power unit with extended electric power capacity of 1255 MW and enhanced security systems.
