A new reservoir stimulation method was tested at Vishanskoe oil field

Июля 21, 2014

Pilot tests of the interstate Russian-Belarusian innovative project started at the Vishanskoe oil field. The joint now-how is intended to increase the efficiency of the production of residual hard-to-recover oil reserves.

Start of the tests was performed by the heads of two companies – Director General of OJSC Zarubezhneft Sergey Kudryashov and Director General of PA Belorusneft Alexander Lyakhov. According to specialists’ preliminary calculation, the pilot project will allow to increase oil recovery factor by 37%.

Nowadays, thermal gas treatment for increase of reservoir recovery is one of the most prospective reservoir stimulation techniques. In contrast to cold water injection, during thermal gas treatment of reservoir there is no threat of reservoir cooling, wax precipitation, and low-permeability reservoirs are, vice versa, involved in development more actively.

It was the end of 2011 when specialists of OJSC “Zarubezhneft” and “Belorusneft” discussed creation of a type of thermal gas treatment technology (for carbonate rocks of the Pripyat downfold) for the first time. Then the companies concluded a strategic partnership contract. The structures of Zarubezhneft – JSC VNIIneft and the famous Russian interbranch scientific and technical institute Nefteotdacha as well as the enterprises of concern Ukrrosmetall actively joined the innovative project. It has already been decided at the initial stage of work that the new technology will not be simply a product for internal use. Accumulated at Belarusian fields experience and technology must become joint intellectual property which the parties are going to patent and introduce at other oil regions of the world.
