The Committee was established in the framework of the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Bangladesh concerning the cooperation in construction of a nuclear power plant in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh signed on November 2, 2011.
At the meeting the parties reviewed national permit-granting practices as well as issues associated with the national procedures of licensing the nuclear power plant construction and other issues. A decision was made to set up a bilateral working group on development of the nuclear infrastructure in Bangladesh.
Russia and Bangladesh will cooperate in the field of education and training of the personnel. In this regard a decision was made to set up a joint working group on education for the Bangladeshi nuclear industry. First students from the PRB will start their education in a branch of NRNU MEPHI in Obninsk already this autumn.
Also, a decision was made to work out a possibility of establishing a multifunctional Atomic Energy Information Center to provide an information support to the Ruppur NPP project in its host region.
The next meeting of the JCC will be held in Dhaka in 2015.
The countries signed the intergovernmental agreement concerning the cooperation in construction of NPP in November 2011. In January 2013, the agreement was signed to provide a loan for the pre-construction phase to Bangladesh. On October 2, 2013 the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh signed the technical contract for Ruppur NPP construction. Under this contract, the United Company NIAEP-ASE carries out the work to design and commission the power units on the Russian side.
The first Atomic Energy Information Center in the country was opened in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre in Dhaka (Bangladesh) on October 1.
