Natural Power driving towards carbon neutrality

Августа 18, 2014

Galloway-based international renewable energy consultancy, Natural Power has purchased a new fleet of vehicles to help drive their ambition to be carbon neutral by 2016.

Having reviewed and road tested a number of low carbon and hybrid vehicles, the organisation finally decided on the Volvo V40, buying 4 vehicles from the Strathmore dealership.

Strathmore Sales Manager Graeme McGregor said: “We are delighted to be supplying Natural Power with a range of Volvo V40s for their fleet needs. The vehicles make for an excellent fit thanks to the credentials of Volvo’s new Drive-E powertrains – offering a world-class blend of driveability and low CO2 emissions.”

The company will base two vehicles at its global headquarters in Galloway and the further two at its central Scotland office in Stirling. The vehicles’ purchase is among a number of efforts being made by Natural Power to reduce its emissions and meet its carbon neutrality targets by 2016.

Natural Power’s innovative headquarters, The Green House, based in Galloway’s Forrest Estate is among the leading sustainable office developments in Scotland. The facility is housed under a grass roof, with 65 per cent of the wood used in construction grown, felled and milled on the estate. The Green House uses 70 per cent less energy than that of an equivalent sized office, with water drawn from a local spring, waste piped to a septic tank and soak-away and energy demands met mostly by hydropower generation, while heating comes from a ground source heat pump.

The vehicle was the consideration of the organisation’s employee-driven Environmental Committee, which is promoting further sustainability initiatives across the company.

Natural Power Director, Neil Douglas added: “As a consultancy working in renewables, Natural Power has an on-going commitment towards carbon neutrality. We are working on a number of initiatives to further reduce our carbon footprint. The purchase of these vehicles marks a significant milestone on our journey to achieving that ambition.”
