Final testing of the power distribution scheme of Boguchanskaia HEPP is in progress

Августа 18, 2014

Commissioning of the transmission line 500 kV “Boguchanskaia HEPP – Ozernaia” will increase the transmitted power level which in turn will result in growth of electric power generation.

The tests that are now being performed by the staff of Boguchanskaia HEPP include routine switching, equipment monitoring, and evaluation of whether relay protection and automation devices are connected and operate correctly.

As of today, 6 out of 9 units are commissioned for commercial service at Boguchanskaia HEPP. Two units underwent integrated testing with energizing and are now awaiting authorization for commissioning for continuous service. The last unit is already prepared for the final testing. The plant generates about 900-930 mln kWh every month.

The power distribution scheme of Boguchanskaia HEPP comprises Priangarskaia, Razdolinsk, and Kodinskaia substations 220 kV, and Ozernaia substation 500 kV. The substations and the HEPP are interconnected with the network of power transmission lines 220 and 500 kV.

The transmission line “Boguchanskaia HEPP – Priangarskaia – Razdolinskaia” unites Kezhemsky, Boguchansky and Motyginsky regions of Krasnoyarsk Territory. Its total length is 301 km.

The transmission line 500 kV “Boguchanskaia HEPP – Angara – Kamala” made it possible to establish a unified power system of Kezhemsky, Boguchansky, Nizhne-Ingashsky, Ilansky, Abansky and Kansky regions of Krasnoyarsk Territory. The total length of this line will be over 500 km.

Over the transmission line 500 kV “Boguchanskaia HEPP – Ozernaia” which is 330 km long, the power of HEPP 4 being a part of the Angarsk chain will be supplied to industrial consumers of Boguchansky and Kezhemsky regions of Krasnoyarsk Territory and to Tayshetsky and Chunsky communities of the Irkutsk region.

Boguchanskaia HEPP is the fourth line of Angarsk hydropower chain which is the largest project in Russia for completion of a major hydroelectric power plant. Construction of the HEPP was suspended back in the Soviet times due to lack of financing. In 2006, it was resumed by RusHydro JSC and UC RUSAL  after signing an agreement for joint implementation of the project for establishment of Boguchansk Energy and Metallurgical Association (BEMA) (a part of Boguchanskaia HEPP) with long-term annual average generation of electric power of 17,600 mln kWh, and an aluminum smelter with annual capacity of 600 thousand tons of metal.

The design capacity of the plant is 3000 MW. In its power house, there are nine hydroturbine units.
