Specialists from Bulgaria, China, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Russia took part in a technical support mission on “Operating Procedures and Documentation”, initiated by the hosting party, namely, Balakovo Chief Engineer Valery Bessonov.
Welcoming the mission participants, he expressed his confidence that such events were useful for further improvement of the plant operation. In addition, V. Bessonov noted: “I think that there is a weighty luggage of knowledge and best practices at Balakovo nuclear power plant, which will be of interest to the colleagues.”
During the visit, the international experience in writing and applying the operating documentation was analyzed. The recommendations that are thought to improve operations by the top management and specialists of Balakovo NPP were accepted for implementation.
It is worth noting that Balakovo NPP has actively cooperated with the WANO. The upcoming events, which will be held on the plant site, include a workshop on self-assessment of operating safety scheduled for November 2014 and a technical support mission on qualification of equipment set to March 2015. But the largest in scale event will be the peer review planned for May next year.
