The sides examined the main areas for developing collaboration in the oil and gas sector. It was noted that Gazprom's entry into Kyrgyzstan's gas market guaranteed an uninterrupted gas supply to consumers in the republic. In connection with this, the two sides discussed Gazprom Kyrgyzstan's plans to develop and overhaul gas transportation facilities within the country on a large scale. Special attention was given to the southern regions of Kyrgyzstan.
During the meeting, Gazprom's plans to conduct geological exploration work at the Kugart and East Maylisu IV sites were examined, as was the company's involvement in developing wholesale and retail markets for oil products in Kyrgyzstan.
Another meeting was held today between Alexey Miller and the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Djoomart Otorbayev. The republic's preparations for the autumn and winter period were given particular mention.
On 10 April 2014, on the basis of a 2013 intergovernmental treaty between Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation, Gazprom and Kyrgyzgaz signed a Contract for the sale of a 100% stake in the charter capital of KyrgyzgazProm, a 100%-owned subsidiary of Kyrgyzgaz. In July 2014, KyrgyzgazProm was renamed Gazprom Kyrgyzstan.
Gazprom Kyrgyzstan is the exclusive importer of natural gas to Kyrgyzstan and the owner of the republic's gas supply and distribution systems.
In 2007, Gazprom and the government of Kyrgyzstan signed an Agreement on the Geological Exploration of Subsoil, giving Gazprom two licences to exploit the Kugart and East Maylisu IV sites. Gazprom International, the sole operator of Gazprom's foreign hydrocarbon prospecting, exploration and development projects, was officially placed in charge of the geological exploration programme.
Proven natural gas reserves in Kyrgyzstan are estimated at 6 billion cubic metres. The republic's own production of natural gas amounts to around 30 million cubic metres per year. Gas consumption is around 300 million cubic metres per year, of which 90% is imported from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
