Gazprom and Petrovietnam to attain planned production levels at the Moc Tinh and Hai Thac deposits in 2016

Сентября 22, 2014

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee, and Nguyen Xuan Son, Chairman of the Board of Directors of State Oil and Gas Corporation Petrovietnam (Vietnam Oil-and-Gas Group), was held at Gazprom's headquarters.

At the meeting, they discussed questions of bilateral cooperation in the gas sector. In particular, the discussions covered the joint development of hydrocarbon resources in Vietnam and in Russia. The parties commended the joint gas production activities at the offshore Moc Tinh and Hai Thac deposits. It was noted that planned production levels will be reached at the deposits in 2016.

The participants at the meeting also considered issues of the development of the gas engine market in Vietnam and the prospects for cooperation in the field of electrical power.

In addition, the parties discussed the progress of negotiations on the acquisition of a share in the Dung Quat oil refinery and its further modernisation, as well as the question of ensuring future supplies of oil to the refinery.

Gazprom and VNG Petrovietnam signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement in 2009. The document covers continuing joint operations in offshore Vietnam, as well as the examination of ways to develop cooperation further in available licence blocks in the republic. The agreement also provides for active cooperation between Gazprom and Petrovietnam in oil and gas projects in Russia, Vietnam and third countries as part of the Gazpromviet joint venture.

Another joint operating company established by Gazprom and Petrovietnam, Vietgazprom, is conducting exploration work at blocks 112, 129, 130, 131 and 132 on Vietnam's continental shelf.

In October 2013, Gazprom and Petrovietnam began commercial production of gas at the Moc Tinh and Hai Thac fields located within licence blocks 05-2 and 05-3 in offshore Vietnam. Gazprom is represented in this project by Gazprom International, the sole specialised operator of its foreign upstream projects.

Also in October 2013, Gazprom and Petrovietnam signed an agreement on the basic principles for a joint venture to implement a project on the use of natural gas as a motor fuel inside Vietnam. The document provides for the development of cooperation between the companies in organising work to convert public transport in Ho Chi Minh City to gas motor fuel. Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo and Gazprom International are participating in the project on Gazprom's behalf.

The Dung Quat oil refinery has a capacity of 6.5 million tonnes per year, about 85% of which is produced nationally and 15% of which is supplied from the Middle East.
