This used to be S.M Kirov monument put up in 1957, there was a monument subsidence and it needed reconstructing. The employees of "Turboatom" supported the initiative of the Directorate to replace it with rotor-monument.
According to General Director of "Turboatom" Viktor Subbotin, this is not the first experience of the enterprise: "In 2003 Kaplan runner of hydraulic turbine was put up at Moscow Avenue. The new monument is a real rotor with actual dimensions. I think that many residents of Kharkov and its guests will be interested to look at our equipment and see such an impressive part of the turbine with their own eyes".
The low-pressure rotor of K220-44 turbine was designed and manufactured for nuclear power plant. The total length of rotor is 6,7 m, a height from the base of the foundation to the top of about 4,3 m. The maximum diameter of the rotor is approximately 3.5 m, a weight of the rotor is 36 tons. It is equipped with standard blades manufactured by "Turboatom".
At the moment, bust of S.M. Kirov is located on the territory of the enterprise. The monument was not on balance of not a single district of the city of Kharkov, and had no historical grounds for being related with "Turboatom".
The area for recreation will be developed near the rotor-monument.
In 2015, "Turboatom" also intends to erect a few monuments manufactured by the plant both on the territory of the plant and its beyond.
