The DSG-200-SP sand-blasting machine with a special protective chamber has been put into operation in the plant's large-diameter bends shop in Magnitogorsk. This Russian-made equipment is designed for final conditioning of the surface of finished products – pipe bends and adapters; it has been launched according to the requirements of Gazprom and Transneft. Compared to previously used manual surface conditioning with the use of angle grinders, the new technology speeds up the process by 5 to 6 times. The dust-trapping system of the protective chamber effectively protects personnel and equipment against the adverse impact of abrasive metal dust, while the screw conveyor ensures recovery (processing for reuse) of the material used in conditioning the surface of pipe bends – abrasive sand, shot, etc.
“The upgrade of the surface conditioning technology is yet another phase of modernization of the large-diameter bends shop as part of certification of our Magnitogorsk facility for compliance with the standards of the leading petroleum companies to allow us to begin shipping products to these consumers. We previously installed the W100B-CNC horizontal boring mill in this shop. It is state-of-the-art foreign-made equipment for mechanical machining of edges of 720-820 mm bends. Modernization of our capacities will enable us to guarantee a stable quality standard for our pipe bends as well as reduce the lead time on our orders,” says Pipe Bends Plant Executive Director Leonid Malamud.
