The 50th Anniversary of Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1

Декабря 24, 2014

50 years ago, in December 1964 the most powerful Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP of JSC TGC-1 was launched in Murmansk Oblast. The HPPs plays a strategic role in the electric power system of the Arctic Circle.

It provides for the electricity transmission in Karelia and is a reserve supply plant for the whole Northern Power Region.

The Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPP is unique due to its underground location at the depth of 50 metres. It is just the office building, the intake house and the open electric power distribution plant that are located on the surface. The HPP is also remarkable for its underground fish factory that produces rainbow trout and is located next to the generator hall.

The operation of the Nizhne-Tulomskaya and Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPPs is organized through a centralised unit - power generator division. 52 staff members are employed there.

“Our team is a unified and synchronised mechanism trained to maintain the HPP’s stable day-to-day performance.  Our main task is to replace the aging equipment and increase the operational reliability”, specified Maksim Nosach, the Head of the Nizhne-Tulomskaya and Verkhne-Tulomskaya HPPs.
