Along with traditional projects relating to design in the area of uranium mining and radioactive waste management, the enterprise is expected to specialize in turnkey construction of industrial facilities.
“The world does not stand still and we develop together with it. Today, EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contracts have become a widespread practice. By forging new lines of business, such as technological engineering and construction project management, we are planning to expand into new markets and increase revenues of both our enterprise and the whole ARMZ Uranium Holding Co.,” says Alexey Starodumov, JSC VNIPIpromtechnologii Director General.
Renovation of JSC Dalur’s end-product drying line became a pilot engineering project. The engineering centre has undertaken the entire range of works, from research and development through design to procurement, customs procedures, civil and installation works.
For reference: Until recently, moisture content in uranium processed at JSC Dalur equalled up to 30%. After implementation of this advanced drying technology moisture content decreased to as low as 1.5%. Uranium content in yellow cake currently amounts to 70%, which corresponds to ASTM basic quality specification. Capacity of the new drying system is 120 kg per hour. Being unique in terms of its performance characteristics, this drying line was designed at JSC VNIPIpromtechnologii and manufactured in the Czech Republic. The first trial batch of yellow cake featuring new quality properties – more than 2.5 tons – has already been forwarded to enterprises of JSC TVEL, a fuel company operated by Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation.
The project has been successfully tested and now these technologies are planned to be applied at another uranium mining enterprise – JSC Khiagda.
Implementation of further plans in the area of technological and structural engineering is associated with JSC PIMCU, the largest enterprise within Rosatom’s mining arm.
