Ukraine withdrawing significantly less gas from storage than in recent years

Января 30, 2015

Ukraine withdrew 1.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) from its storage facilities from the start of the year until 25 January 2015, according to transmission system operator Ukrtransgaz.

This figure is 18% lower than for the corresponding period last year (2.2 bcm) and 33% lower than withdrawals between these dates in 2013 (2.7 bcm).

According to operating data, as of January 26 there was 9.7 bcm of natural gas in Ukraine’s storage facilities, while daily withdrawals stand at 56.1 million cubic meters (mcm). Ukrainian underground gas reserves are the third largest in Europe (after Germany and Italy) and are significantly higher than the reserves of many countries that consume large volumes of gas such as the UK and France.

Ukraine has five operational underground gas storage facilities. The largest daily withdrawals (31 mcm) are carried out at the Bilche-Volytsko-Uherske facility, which is one of the most powerful in Europe.

All Ukrainian gas storages are functioning normally.
