In order to ensure the most effective decommissioning and to reduce the office buildings maintenance costs, one INPP office building was vacated and operation of the Training Center for the needs of INPP was terminated at the end of 2014. Due to the above mentioned actions an enterprise will save up to 420 thousand euros each year.
To ensure the rational use of resources and funds the enterprise constantly reviews expenses and pays all the efforts for constant increase of effectiveness in decommissioning process and use of funds allocated. The vacated office building was planned to be used at least until 2027 and the Training Center until the end of 2034, thus it can be stated that the enterprise potentially saved approx. 6,7 million euros by refusing to use the above mentioned facilities in 2014, - said INPP Director General Darius Janulevičius.
According to Darius Janulevičius, the main reason for the above mentioned real estate freeing up was the transformation of INPP activities nature to decommissioning, leading to reduction of number of employees and termination of certain technological processes. A part of the enterprise owned real estate became redundant due to the above mentioned changes; therefore the handover is rational and reasonable.
In fact, INPP does not use this property as per intended purpose anymore and the maintenance costs remains very high, accordingly the management of such property is incompatible with the objectives of more rational and efficient use of INPP funds and objectives of the enterprise itself. For instance, the enterprise employees’ training is being organized in the office buildings’ premises, other buildings for training purposes are not needed and its management would be impractical, - said Director of the enterprise.
In long term perspective it is planned to vacate other office buildings by taking into account a significant reduction of decommissioning works and completion of decommissioning projects in future. Moreover, only two office buildings will remain and be used by the operating and maintenance personnel of storage and landfills facilities after the completion of decommissioning.
Ignalina NPP will continue current cost-cutting policy and be looking for new ways how to improve efficiency. Currently the decommissioning projects are being implemented under the new work schedule. INPP is taking all possible measures in order to shorten the terms for new facilities commissioning, it would greatly help to reduce the total expenses for the whole decommissioning process.
