Марта 02, 2015

The new record has been confirmed in the Schlumberger/Smith Bits world database.

LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft has established a new world record in horizontal drilling with a significant bottom displacement. Well No.108, drilled from an offshore ice-resistant stationary platform at Yuri Korchagin field in the Caspian Sea, went down 4,908 meters in the 9.5-inch section, in one run, without any tripping.

Well No.108, a mere 1,565 meters deep, has a total length of 8,005 meters, which is the largest figure as part of the Korchagin field development project.

The previous world record in this category was also set by LUKOIL in the Caspian Sea while drilling well No.103, as a result of which two oil-bearing strata, the field’s first, were discovered. In addition, well No.103 also set an in-house record of penetration rate.
