During the bench testing, the real-world pipes operation as a part of an oil pipeline is simulated: the impact of variable internal pressure (oil pumping), external transverse forces, and bending moments (soil movements, temperature gradient within the climatic conditions, rise of the pipeline during major repairs etc.). Testing of static and low-cycle strength is performed by filling steel pipes with a diameter of up to 1,220 mm and a length of up to 7 m with an internal pressure and two transverse forces that generate a bending moment (four-point bending).
Upgrade was implemented within the Technical Upgrading and Revamping (TUR) Program for 2014–2020 approved by Transneft, JSC.
The test bench of Transneft Diascan, JSC has been in operation since 2000. Over 15 years it has faced a significant deterioration of pumping station pumps and the cooling system; moreover, electronic equipment of the bench is technically outdated. Their replacement was the first stage of work on upgrade of the test bench.
The second stage of upgrade of the bench comprised equipping the bench with a new heavy-duty high-volume pressure transducer with the capacity of 70 liters instead of that of 45 liters, which was previously used. The new equipment allows for halving the duration of testing of pipes service life with a diameter of 1,020–1,220 mm and with a wall thickness of more than 14 mm, which are used in the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) Pipeline System.
