Institute specialists are to carry out studies within the Perm Territory, Sverdlovsk Region and the Republic of Udmurtia, to sample rock material, to conduct geological, geochemical and geochronological studies of Predevonian sediments of the section and to assess its oil and gas prospects.
The work is being carried out in three stages. At the current stage in 2015 there will be conducted field work involving outcrop rock sampling, as well as compiling a stratification of Predevonian sediment sections, systematizing and partially reinterpreting geological, geophysical (1,000 running km) and geochemical information from the Predevonian sediments of the area being examined. There will be built geological and geophysical sections of wells and profiles, conducted laboratory and analytical studies (lithological, petrographic, petrophysical, geochemical) of Proterozoic and lower Paleozoic oil and gas bearing complexes. As many as 350 samples from Lower, Medium, Upper Riphean and Upper Vendian sediments (drill-hole cores and outcrop samples) will be turned over to the FGUP NVNIIGG Institute of Geology and Geophysics for Rock-Eval pyrolysis.
“A lot needs to be done”, says Tatyana Alexandrova, KamNIIKIGS vice president for geology. “We have opened the field season, ran the reconnaissance traverse in the valley of Usva River from the village Bezgodovo to the settlement Usva, and sampled rock material for geochemical and petrographic studies. We will study the conditions of formation of reservoirs, cap rocks and oil-and-gas source rock using the results of structural-tectonic reconstructions and lithologic and facies analysis; clarify the schemes of basement tectonics, Riphean, Vendian, Ordovician and Silurian sediments; identify zones of development of oil-and-gas source rock, suites, reservoirs, reservoir cap rock, and traps”.
This will help create maps of oil and gas prospects and quantify forecast resources of oil and gas of Predevonian sediments in the areas, which hold out much promise for their development in the categories D 1+ D 2 totaling at least 10 million tonnes/
Work under this agreement is performed as part of the Government Contract No. 184 concluded last October between the Subsoil Department of the Volga Federal District and FGUPl NVNIIGG. KamNIIKIGS is a subcontractor under this contract. Work is scheduled to be completed in 3Q 2016.
