On May 18 the delegation of IAEA visited Mr. N. Spasskiy, Deputy Director General of ROSATOM. There were held comprehensive consultations to discuss the practical aspects of cooperation between IAEA and Russia in the practical point of view in the whole area of safeguards application as well as the issues concerning of the safeguards application with respect to the International uranium enrichment center in Angarsk. The special attention was paid to the Russian program of IAEA support for IAEA safeguards, which is an actual tool of personnel training and enhancing procedures for safeguard activities. Mr. G.V. Berdennikov, an Ambassador of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for especial matters took part in the consultations as well as other representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, experts from State Corporation Rosatom and a number of its subsidiaries.
On May 19 Mr. Varjoranta had a meeting with Mr. S.A. Ryabkov, deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for foreign affairs. In the same day the IAEA delegation visited MEPhI. There was arranged a technical tour in the course of which the IAEA representatives saw scientific and technical capabilities of the university in the area of nuclear safeguards. Mr. M.N. Strikhanov, rector of MEMhI,, held a work meeting with the IAEA representatives and discussed the issues of training and continuous training for the IAEA Department of Safeguards on the basis of MEPhI. Mr. T. Varjoranta read a lecture for the employees and students of the university devoted to the topics of functioning of IAEA safeguards system.
On May 20 the IAEA delegation visited VNIIEF and held a meeting with Mr. V.E. Kostyukov, director of the Institute. The delegation made acquaintance with actual developments, which could be useful for the IAEA Department of Safeguards. The delegation also visited Training center for physical protection, accounting and control of nuclear materials of VNIIEF.
The both parties assessed the meetings arranged as timely and useful.
