Июня 11, 2015

A team of experts from Atomic Energy Commissions of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and People's Republic of Bangladesh paid a visit to the construction site of the facilities designated to substitute Leningrad NPP capacities.

Technological peculiarities of the design of the NPP under construction are the main subject of interest for many foreign partners of State Corporation Rosatom, which are planning or have already started to develop nuclear power industry in their countries. In the course of the meeting the guests have been provided with information regarding technical characteristics of the erected NPP units, methods and approaches for installation of the main process equipment, key events of the past year and objectives for the current year. The visit of the delegation was accomplished with a tour to the construction site of Leningrad NPP-II, where the experts from Atomic Energy Commissions of Bangladesh and Jordan saw over the turbine and reactor buildings. The delegation members were interested in the unit safety systems, as well as in design differences between reactor installations of VVER-1200 and VVER-TOI types, operational principles of cooling towers.

In their turn the guests informed that NPP the preparatory activities are under way at the construction site of Ruppur, 60 specialists have been employed as full-time staff-members to control this process in different areas. The NPP site is located on the east bank of the Ganges River in the settlement Ruppur, approximately 160 kilometres from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The NPP will consist of two units with VVER-1000 nuclear reactors . The connection to the grid of the first unit is scheduled for the early 2020-s.

"In the framework of the scientific and technical mission we are visiting Russian nuclear power facilities, - said Mr. Monzurul Haque, the representative of the Atomic Energy Commission of Bangladesh. - Leningrad NPP-II is of interest for us as a possible prototype of the NPP in Ruppur. Our delegation consists of two groups. The first focuses on the equipment purchase and involvement of third-party organizations that will take part in the construction. The second group is responsible for the planning and personnel training. To perform these tasks we have already visited Novovoronezh NPP-II, JSC Machine-building Plant ZIO-Podolsk and now want to study the design for construction of Leningrad NPP-II. It is important to comprehensively analyse what is the most acceptable for application in Bangladesh, where we have a very high density of the population and very few natural resources. We are, first and foremost, interested in low-cost electricity. The access to affordable and reliable power source - this is the key condition for the dynamic and successful development of the economy in our country".
