Once fully operational, Vientos del Altiplano, which will comprise 50 turbines of 2 MW each, will be able to generate more than 280 GWh each year – equivalent to the yearly energy consumption needs of over 161,000 Mexican households – while avoiding the annual emission of more than 157,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
EGP will be investing a total of approximately 220 million US dollars in the construction of Vientos del Altiplano, in line with the growth targets set out in the company’s current business plan. The investment will be financed through EGP Group resources. The project, which is expected to be completed and put online by the second half of 2016, is supported by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
In Mexico, Enel Green Power has an installed capacity of around 400 MW, of which 346 MW from wind power and 53 MW from hydro.
