Earlier in April the contract was awarded to the Russian-Indonesian Consortium RENUKO for the preliminary engineering design for a 10 MW Experimental Power Reactor for the BATAN. The implementation of the design works started in May 2015.
The RENUKO Consortium, apart from the Indonesia companies Rekayasa Engineering and Kogas Driyap Consultant, also includes NUKEM Technologies GmbH, which is implementing the project jointly with other Rosatom’s enterprises that possess extensive experience in reactor design and construction: Atomstroyexport, OKBM Afrikantov, SIA "LUCH", and Kurchatov Institute.
Via an on-site inspection of the engineering documents under preparation the representatives of BATAN got an insight view about the level of progress achieved in the different work packages of the project. Besides numerous presentations for the guests from BATAN detailed information about the status of works had been provided.
“The fruitful meeting and discussions held during the visit have reinforced the already good relationship between the parties for the ongoing project and beyond.” said Mr. Kutscher, Managing Director of NUKEM Technologies GmbH.
Also comprehensive information about the working methods, design tools and applicable software as well as about NUKEM’s overall Quality Management System had been given.
“The visit by BATAN was due to gather confirmation about the smooth progress in the preparation of the relevant design documents as the project is of national interest in Indonesia and thus quite under public observation”, said Mr. Taswanda Taryo, Deputy Chairman of BATAN. He also appreciated the high standards of works demonstrated by both German and Russian specialists.
“They have experience in dealing with projects of such scale, combining the vast German engineering capacities and seven decades of the Russian nuclear industry leadership. For instance, the scientific consultant of the project is the Russian Kurchatov Institute – the organisation, which designed and commissioned the world’s first commercial power reactor”, Taswanda Taryo noted.
The project provides for the construction of a 10MW multifunctional high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR). The scope of work to be completed by the Russian-Indonesian Consortium for 8 months includes preparation of a feasibility study for the conceptual design, and basic design package.
Tender for the construction of Experimental Power Reactor based on EPC-contract is expected to be run in 2017.
