Additional terms of the contract provide for the option to build two more similar serial-built vessels. The documents were signed by Igor Sechin, Rosneft Chairman of the Management Board and Vladimir Tsybin, Acting General Director of the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center.
New 100m long vessels can be operated in harsh conditions. A wide range of tasks can be resolved as part of Rosneft offshore projects implementation in the northern seas due to multiple functions of this type of vessels.
The support vessels are planned to be constructed at Zvezda Shipyard. The contracts were signed in development of the exclusive agreement signed by the parties in 2014 that provided for placing all shipbuilding orders at the facilities of the complex. Thus, the Company is fulfilling its license commitments as related to placing orders with the Russian shipyards.
Commenting on the agreement signing, Igor Sechin said, "Today we placed a pilot order for building high-tech vessels with Zvezda Shipyard. We started implementation of the task set by the Russian President to localize the manufacturing of marine facilities in the Far East, and we expect that other license holders working at offshore license blocks, and shipping companies will follow our example".
Once implemented, the project "Creation of Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex" will facilitate a new industrial cluster in the Russian Far East and will have a significant multiplier effect for the economy of the region.
Pursuant to instructions of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, a consortium formed by Rosneft and Gazprombank represented by Modern Shipbuilding Technology (the "STS") is setting up an industrial and shipbuilding cluster in the Russian Far East based on the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center, with the new Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex located in the town of Bolshoi Kamen' to become its core.
In order to ensure an efficient commissioning of Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and utilization of its capacities, at the meeting of Commission under the President of the Russian Federation on Development Strategy for the Fuel and Energy sector and Environmental Safety held on 4 June 2014, it was proposed to set up on the basis of the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center a united center for placing orders for building marine vessels and facilities for offshore projects implementation. Pursuant to the RF Government instructions, a task was set to oil and gas companies to place orders through Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex.
