Rosgeologia eyes global offshore seismic market

Сентября 29, 2015

Average annual productivity of Rosgeologia’s seismic fleet in the high latitudes may total up to 2,500 km2 of 3D seismic survey and up to 50,000 line kilometers of 2D seismic survey.

Rosgeologia’s processing computer centers in Moscow, Gelendzhik, Murmansk, St. Petersburg, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk have enough capacity to handle and interpret 390,000 line kilometers/year of 2D seismic data and 21,000 km2/year of 3D seismic data.

Alexei Solovyov, Deputy CEO of JSC Rosgeologia for science and strategic planning, attended the 19th annual conference and exhibition Sakhalin Oil and Gas 2015 where he delivered a report on the company’s prospects for developing into a global player on the offshore seismic market at the session entitled New Technologies of Exploration and Data Analysis - Latest Solutions.

Rosgeologia is currently establishing a center of competence, Rosgeologia SEA. The center will include JSC Dalmorneftegeofizika, JSC Sevmorneftegeofizika, State Enterprise PMGE (Polar Marine Geosurvey Expedition), JSC AMIGE (Arctic Marine Engineering Geological Expeditions), State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation Federal State Unitary Geological Enterprise Yuzhmorgeologiya, JSC Soyuzmorgeo, JSC Sevmorgeo, and JSC Kalinigradgeofizika. Several entities have already been put on the books of the holding company, while others are still being transferred in compliance with Russian presidential decrees Nos 81 and 82, signed this February.

“The synergy effect from the consolidation of enterprises will facilitate the conduct of core types of operations in Russia’s offshore areas, including the Arctic, and access to the principal foreign markets”, said Solovyov. “The companies making up the center of competence have offshore expertise spanning 20 to 50 years. Analysis of the Russian market for marine seismic exploration and our production capacities indicate that the Rosgeologia SEA Center of Competence is capable of completely satisfying the demand for marine seismic operations for all of Russia’s subsoil users in the 2D format up to 2018 with the existing fleet and equipment. Our enterprises have highly skilled specialists and adequate material and technical facilities which, hopefully, will let us become a significant player on the global offshore seismic market”.

“Extracting oil and gas in Arctic seas is an integrated and technologically challenging problem. To be able to talk about its prospects, one needs to understand clearly what resources and in what amounts are concentrated there”, Solovyov continued. “Geological prospecting in Russia’s Arctic shelf has declined dramatically, despite the quantum leap in research technologies in terms of both effectiveness and ecological footprint. Admittedly, we do not know yet the potential of Russia’s offshore hydrocarbon base, since the shelf of Arctic seas has been studied unevenly. This situation needs to be corrected”.
