Chevron Specialists Visited Transneft Facilities

A delegation of Chevron, an American corporation, visited the facilities of Transneft. These working visits of Chevron specialists responsible for implementation of the pipeline transport projects were held within the framework of the best practices exchange.

On September 28, 2015, the Chevron delegation visited the head office of Transneft, JSC in Moscow where it discussed topical issues of cooperation with Transneft’s senior managers. The American specialists were learned about the implementation of investment projects, prospects of development of Transneft’s oil trunk pipeline system, measures taken to ensure safety of the system’s operation and prevent illegal tapping of the pipelines. The Chevron representatives also visited the premises of the Oil and Oil Products Flow Dispatch Center of Transneft, JSC.

Later in the day, the Chevron delegation visited the facilities of Transneft R&D, LLC. During the extended meeting with experts invited from the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy of the MGIMO (Moscow State University of International Relations), the Ufa State Oil Technical University, the I.M. Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, the N.E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the parties discussed the issues of expansion of scientific and technical cooperation between Chevron and Transneft R&D, LLC.

Specialists of Transneft R&D, LLC delivered a report on their own research of physical and chemical properties of steel in the pipes operated for a long time and assessment of the safe service life based on more than 1,760 bench tests of real pipe samples and more than 28 thousand laboratory tests of pipe metal and welding joint samples. The Chevron representatives also learned about the developments of Transneft R&D, LLC in the field of systems of monitoring and safe operation of the pipelines laid in hard geological conditions, results of the comparative analysis of Russian and international standards in the field of design, construction and operation of pipelines.

On September 29, 2015, as part of their visits to the sites of Transneft Volga Region, JSC, the Chevron specialists inspected the tank farm in the village of Prosvet, Samara Region, the largest one in Europe, with its total capacity of 1.6 million cubic meters. During the tour, the delegation learned about the stages and peculiarities of the modern tanks construction. Special attention was paid to the new equipment manufactured under the import substitution program. The Chevron representatives familiarized themselves with the prototype model of the mobile anti-sediment system for tanks cleaning.

On September 30, 2015, the Chevron delegation visited the facilities of Chernomortransneft, JSC. American specialists got acquainted with the activities of the Company, familiarized themselves with the works performed at the Grushovaya site of the Sheskharis oil transshipment depot, visited the Southern terminal and inspected the service tunnel put into operation in August 2015.

At the flotation plant of the lower site of Sheskharis oil transshipment depot, the Chevron representatives had an opportunity to see the energy-intensive wastewater cleaning equipment in operation. The delegation also visited the control room of the executive office of Chernomortransneft, LLC.

The program was completed on October 1, 2015 when the delegation visited the facilities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).
